KDE has been using an older patched version of gettext for a number of years, introducing some behavioral changes like including translation hints in the message IDs. KDE application developers who do not have their code residing in the KDE repository (which has an automated i18n system) are told by KDEs i18n documentation to get this KDE fork of gettext to extract messages. I'm thinking it would be nice to have this in the Portage tree, as a number of other distributions ship it as well: * Kubuntu Dapper has a "gettext-kde" package installing the executable as "kde-xgettext": http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/devel/gettext-kde * OpenSuSE includes it in kdesdk, AFAIK. Tarballs are available from here: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/devel/gettext-kde
I'll take care of this tonight.
diego, ping?
Err sorry I forgot to keep you updated. That version of gettext is quite outdated and also quite broken, the patch doesn't apply on newer versions of gettext, as they seem to include at least a similar support. I was going to find someone to ask about this, but I had a bit of short times lately.
