Description Axel Gerber 2003-01-01 13:35:50 UTC
Dear all,

recently I installed a pending kicker and started KNewsTicker in it. While the
ticker runs my sound (alsa/artsd) has an ugly drop outs?!?!?!?

What to do?

emerge sync and emerge system resp. emerge world is up to date here

Thanks for your help

Regards
 Axel

knewsticker doesn't use sound AFAIK. Do you perhaps see it using a lot of CPU?
Do you have perhaps a sound output that's especially sensitive to your resource utilization,
e.g. through usb or network?
Perhaps run your media player with a higher priority (even realtime if you can)? Enable the low
latency patch in your kernl if you haven't :-) OK this is somewhat beyond the bounds of the
actual bugreport, but I really don't know what else to suggest...
How about KDE 3.1?

Also you can try enlarging arts' buffer (in kcontrol) --> less dropouts but higher response times
as well (so it's good for listening to music but bad for playing games where you need to react
to sound a lot).

I'm closing this due to no response from you. If you still have this problem please reopen the
bug and respond to my previous comments.
