Description Benjamin Gaillard 2006-04-18 10:52:02 UTC
Here is an ebuild for GCC-UPC, a GCC-based UPC (Unified Parallel C) compiler. I named it "dev-util/gcc-upc".

It includes a patch needed for a proper installation: DESTDIR wasn't used in one makefile so the files get copied out of the installation image which makes sandbox abord the build. Please also add the downloaded "upc.3.4.4.1-gcc.3.4.4.diff.gz" file to the Gentoo mirrors.

Note that I'm not affiliated at all to this project; I just needed it for my studies so I made an ebuild for it. Thus it's ok for me to maintain the ebuild but I don't have any skill to give people support for the compiler itself...

The ebuild archive just follows as an attachment.

(this is an automated message based on filtering criteria that matched this bug)
'EBUILD' is in the KEYWORDS which should mean that there is a ebuild attached
to this bug.
This bug is assigned to maintainer-wanted which means that it is not in the
main tree.
Heuristics show that no Gentoo developer has commented on your ebuild.

Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild
submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely
manner. There are simply too many new packages.

Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The
sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to
commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry
into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this
and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =)

Because this is a mass message, we are also asking you to be patient with us.
We anticipate a large number of requests in a short time.

Thanks,
On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team,
Jeremy.

Well, this seems pretty bad. I tried installing the newest version, but I failed. It would be really nice to have gcc-upc on Gentoo. I also need it for my studies, but it seems I will have to do them on another machine.

Is really noone interested in this? :(

Upstream seems to be reasonably alive - the latest release came out in August 2015 and the Intrepid team is still around. On the other hand:
 - it would appear upstream is now focused on developing Clang-UPC;
 - there is now a massive version gap between the last available ebuild (3.4.4.1) and the current release (5.2.0.1);
 - there has been no activity in this bug since 2011.

All in all, I would say it largely depends on user demand at this point.

While this is still a viable package for the Gentoo Portage tree it appears this ebuild is lacking in community interest. If you (or another user) are still wanting this to make it into the Portage tree please let us know! It would be additionally helpful (but not required) if you were willing to help out with the package by becoming it's proxied maintainer; you have already done most of the work for this task. Gentoo even has a dedicated team[1] for assisting users in becoming proxied maintainers. If you are interested in maintaining this package, please contact proxy-maint@gentoo.org or join #gentoo-proxy-maint on Freenode IRC.

If this bug remains silent without further comments for 30 days i will close it with the resolution of WONTFIX. Beyond that the bug can always be reopened to get this package back on track for the Gentoo Portage tree.
