When I did a world update this morning, emerge wanted to install all of xf86-video-*. I have VIDEO_CARDS="ati" in /etc/make.conf, but ati is not listed anymore with x11-base/xorg-x11-7.0-r1: [ebuild R ] x11-base/xorg-x11-7.0-r1 USE="-3dfx" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse -acecad -aiptek -calcomp -citron -digitaledge -dmc -dynapro -elo2300 -elographics -evdev -fpit -hyperpen -jamstudio -joystick -magellan -magictouch -microtouch -mutouch -palmax -penmount -spaceorb -summa -synaptics -tek4957 -ur98 -vmmouse -void -wacom" VIDEO_CARDS="dummy* -apm -ark -chips -cirrus -cyrix -fbdev -fglrx -glint -i128 -i740 -i810 -imstt -mach64% -mga -neomagic -nsc -nv -nvidia -r128% -radeon% -rendition -s3 -s3virge -savage -siliconmotion -sis -sisusb -tdfx -tga -trident -tseng -v4l -vesa -vga -via -vmware -voodoo" 0 kB As seen above, my workaround to this was to add "dummy" to my VIDEO_CARDS so that only this driver will be installed. However, the correct fix would be to re-add ati to xorg-x11.
As Donnie Berkholz announced on the gentoo-dev mailing-list [1], VIDEO_CARDS="ati" has been splitted to VIDEO_CARDS="mach64 r128 radeon" in the modular X ebuilds. No idea if that also affects the monolith X. [1] http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=gentoo-dev&m=114529169602006&w=2

No idea if that also affects the monolith X. I see. Yeah, didn't recognize "-mach64%", "-r128%" and "-radeon%". OK, I've set VIDEO_CARDS=radeon" now.

well, at least http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/modular-x-howto.xml this howto should be fixed (it provides an example of VIDEO_CARDS="ati"). many people with ait cards obviously use this example and gonna file more duplicate bugs
Fixed, thanks! Should show up on servers in an hour or so.
Thanks to you, man.
