The new xorg-server package that was introduced recently (1.0.99.901) breaks font rendering when using the binary nvidia driver, most likely due to ABI changes. Fonts appear to be missing all over the place. Using the "nv" driver works properly. That would not necessarily be a problem, but I cannot revert to the previous xorg-server modular build because it was removed from portage. I suggest this build to be hard masked, or at the very least, bring back the previous version so it can be downgraded for those who experience problems. Sorry, the driver is not compatible. Need to wait for a fixed one. See Bug 129779. > xorg-server modular build because it was removed from portage. Huh? It most certainly wasn't removed, and also this version *is* hardmasked. $ eshowkw xorg-server Keywords for x11-base/xorg-server: | a a a h i m m p p p s s s x x | l m r p a 6 i p p p 3 h p 8 8 | p d m p 6 8 p c c c 9 a 6 6 | h 6 a 4 k s 6 - 0 r - | a 4 4 m c f | a b | c s | o d | s -----------+------------------------------ 1.0.2-r3 | ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 1.0.99.901 | ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $ grep -C2 xorg-server /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask # Joshua Baergen <joshuabaergen@gentoo.org> (14 Apr 2006) # Mask for X7.1 RC >=x11-base/xorg-server-1.0.99
