When emerge needs config files updated it ends its output with a messages telling you to use etc-update. Shouldn't it be telling you to use dispatch-conf, if etc-update has been deprecated -- particularly so if use of etc-update can occasionally lead to system misbehaviour (as suggested in comments for http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125470)?

etc-update isn't deprecated.

Looks like a documentation bug then. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_etc-update says that etc-update is deprecated. I'll file another report.

This is the part where I grin and tell you that gentoo-wiki is not official documentation ;)  Feel free to edit that page though, we do not manage Gentoo-Wiki.com
