I've been successfully converting some .avi files to svcds. In the progress I had to make some minor patches to ripmake to get things going: - use the ffmpeg codec instead of xvid for transcoding avi files to svcd - use mp3 codec to transcode mp2 audio - "real" bugfixes to the perl code

These seems to be mostly enhancement that are not Gentoo specific and not needed to use ripmake on Gentoo, right? In this case, I'd suggest you to move this upstream, and ask them for a new release. We try not to change the code unless we really need to, to fix stuff or if upstream is entirely dead.
