Description Pedro Algarvio 2006-04-11 16:45:27 UTC
Why does phpmyadmin-2.8.0.2 require php5? On their site they do not state any requirement for php5, only support.

No, it doesn't. That's how portage handles slots. You need to package.mask =dev-lang/php-5* if you don't want it. And you need to switch to dev-lang/php first:

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/php/php-upgrading.xml

dev-php/{php,mod_php} is dead, unmaintained and unsupported.
