The screen's just gone. Problem 2: Choosing Safe-* gives a kernel panic with the following information: Oops: Kernel access of bad area, sigkill NIP: CQ4CF470 XER: 20000000 LR: 00140198 SP: C2F5BD70 REGS: C2F5BCC0 TRAP: 0300 Not Tainted MSR: 00009032 EE:1 PR:0 F{:0 ME:1 IR/DR: 11 DAR: E1142000, PSISR: 42000000 TASK=C2F5A000[1] 'swapper' last syscall: 120 last math 00000000 last altivec 00000000 cpu:1 Anything else I couldn't catch before a reboot, but the numbers of course change. Let me know what I can do!
THis is a known kernel issue :( radeon 9000 + ata100 bus based machines are still trouble, asll I can suggest is wait and test things for us when we are ready for it :)
Can y ou try attaching a drive to the ata66 bus in this box and try it out? I've been told this worked for other users. THere is no ata100 bus support in the kernel for these machines yet afaik.
Heh ... waaaaay ahead of you on that one. :) I figured that out with the 1.2 cd, ended up putting an 80 and 120 gig on the ata66 bus anyway. On the 1.2 cd, it -did- detect the drives, and I was able to use ... what, mac-fdisk I believe it was? Anyhoo, that's not a problem... Give me a suggestion, and I'll give you my time.
Latest Live-CD Test (2/23/02) "Live" kernel Same problem, display disappears. "Live-Safe" kernel, I get a perfectly working display. I remind everyone that my display is a DVI monitor hooked on the SECOND output... Not the first ADC output on the Radeon 9000... just a note. Now that i can actually have a WORKING GENTOO ENVIRONMENT (/me rejoices) I can basically test anything you want... Let me know!
closing this as you can boot with safe mode now
