When I boot the Gentoo 2006.0 graphical installer with the gentoo kernel, than at 73%, it gives the message:

"switching to ati openGL interface"

and after that the system hangs. I have a ATI Radeon 9000/PRO video card

By the way, the 2005-rc1 live cd works fine (but it doesn't have the graphical installer either)

How exactly do you know if the CD works, if it doesn't have any X detection on it?

Well, this is "FIXED" insofar as we've switched 100% to the open source drivers for everything for 2006.1, which will be released soon.

2006.1 shouldn't hang on OpenGL detection, since it is using the X.Org OpenGL implementation.
