Description Jared H. Hudson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-29 04:33:18 UTC
The first time you run gnome (stable GRP version, but probably the latest as
well) a error dialog pops up if you dont have xscreensaver installed. I think
xscreensaver should be added to the RDEPEND of whichever package in gnome starts
it by default. This should also be added to GRP. This ebuild fix should be
backported to a stable ebuild or made stable so it makes it into GRP.

well, it isn't an error, but a warning, and the dependency isnt -hard- but a
soft one, it will use it if it finds it. xscreensaver was kept as a
non-dependency because of the unintrusive part of the dialog (default was to
appear once, the first time launched). Rationale is that xscreensaver pulls in a
lot of USE depended variables, and can expand the install time by a huge factor.

yeah and in the end xscreensaver is just bloatware (nice, but still.. :))
