do you know an EASY way to send you the phoeo... can i click on the patch button???
Comment on attachment 84145 [details] the photo of the kernel panic doesn't work
Created attachment 84529 [details] the photo of the kernel it was problematic because i needed to transfer files from a computer to another with a non working nfs if i don't know well were to start in order to debug nfs should i bugreport?
Thanks, that gives us something to work on. Is this reproducible with vanilla-sources-2.6.16?
(In reply to comment #14) > Thanks, that gives us something to work on. Is this reproducible with > vanilla-sources-2.6.16? > i will try but the computer is a piii 700 with 320MB ram,so it's a little bit slow to compile... i will first try the linux-2.6.16.5 from kenrel.org because i already compiled it
the linux-2.6.16.5 from kernel.org gives me the same kind of error screen by the way i have forgotten to give the full specs of my machine -dell inspiron 2500 -piii 1000@700 (because when it's at 1000MHz the fan is on nearly 100% of the time) -320 MB sd-ram i will add the oput of some commands as a file, because it will be easyer to view(as bugzilla can display the text inside the browser)

2.6.16.5 is fine, thanks for testing that. Can you disable the logo and increase the screen resolution? That way, we should be able to see the full error message.
(In reply to comment #21) > 2.6.16.5 is fine, thanks for testing that. > > Can you disable the logo and increase the screen resolution? That way, we > should be able to see the full error message. > i'll do that... i have to try in an incremental way for the resolution so in order to take less time i will recompile the kernel using the existant binary(that means that i keep the binary inside /usr/src/linux-2.6.16.5/arch/i386/boot/BzImage and that i make a make under /usr/src/linux-2.6.16.5/)
by the way i have 2 computers runing gentoo i have no serial cable but: *i can construct one *i have networking so mabe it's better to: *compile the kenrel with a lot of debuging option and send the oput to the second computer The problem is that i don't know how to do theses things(get the message from a kernel inside another computer) that could also help me to debug another problem that is a scsi problem(computer hanging) with my second computer
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/serial-console.txt details how to set up a serial console. You'll need to google for some howto for the parameters to use in minicom on the listening computer.
the photography isn't that great so i'll use serial cable another question that seems stupid i'll find the scemat but...what about the cable what is: -the max length of the cable? -i have some cat5 networking, some telephone cable and a lot of others ones are cat5 ok or do i need special cables(the proprieties of cables are very important in certain domain but i don't know if this aply here) in order to built this cable another stupider question: what is the name of the cable because there are different design on the web such as null modem, and even diferent serial cables names
i found an old isa card and a niden cable i'll try that

GREAT...it works... i am waiting impatiently for the 2.6.17(i heard that they would integrate new wifi chip and mabe have an updated NTFS driver) mabe we should try the parallel port in module and debug it we should have some docs specific to the kernel for bugreporting... mabe we could use the kernel device driver book(avaliable in an open-licence and on the net but also as an oreilly book) in order to write such documents
> I think i have hit the same thing, or atleast is related, Yes - thats the same, and the image captures the entire crash report. Thanks! I should have probably mentioned beforehand that disabling parport will workaround this - sorry. Could one of you please confirm this bug still exists on the latest development kernel (2.6.17-rc2) before I report it upstream?

I checked and tipar is not hardware-dependant (module kind-of functions even without the TI calculator, as long as you have a parallel port). I can reproduce this here and am working on a fix. If 2.6.17 boots OK then it sounds like you haven't compiled tipar support in.

Fixed in gentoo-sources-2.6.16-r4 (genpatches-2.6.16-6)
