Aspell 0.60 has apparently problems on sparc machines. It has problems loading some languages (somewhat erratically: English seems to work fine, but Italian, Finnish and possibly others crash with a message of "Bus Error"). http://www.itsistemi.net/viewtopic-686628.html http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnu.aspell.user/1131 According to a user, a simple patch is enough to make Aspell behave properly on sparc (it is described as a "workaround", but it looks a permanent solution to me; no disadvantages, performance nor functionality loss are described): http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnu.aspell.devel/421 Please test whether this patch works on sparc (I have no sparc system of my own, I am not the admin on the one I can access), and if successful please integrate this patch in the ebuilds for the Aspell 0.60* series. I am not sure whether this can be damaging to other architectures, but for safety leaving it sparc-specific won't hurt.
