Any suggestions?

I can't confirm this in perl 5.8 - there, XML-SAX installs just fine. Give me a
little time to locate a perl 5.6.1 to test the ebuild on again.

Was this part of a dependancy or a straight emerge of XML-SAX? Is your
ExtUtils-MakeMaker up to date? Not thatiether of these should be causing the
ebuild to fail for you locally - just checking.
Comment 2 Michael Cummings (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-06 17:25:40 UTC
Is this still a problem? I need feedback to move forward.
Comment 3 peter hiltz 2003-01-07 15:42:31 UTC
Sorry, off on a business trip.

Straight emerge.
ExtUtils-MakeMaker is up to date?

I emerged perl 5.8, then successfully emerged XML-SAX, but that created other problems.
Dropped back down to 5.6.1 and again cannot emerge XML-SAX. Same error as before.

Flip flopping between versions of perl isn't helping - perl modules are being
installed into different trees that are not viewable by both versions. Have you
settled on using perl 5.6.1? Did you re-emerge ExtUtils-MakeMaker after
emerging perl 5.6.1? I don't have access to a terminal atm, but are the deps
for XML-SAX installed (again) now that you have perl 5.6.1 re-emerged? I can
provide a short script that will at least re-emerge your perl modules. Are you
still receiving the message you posted first when you attempted to emerge XML-
SAX?
Comment 5 peter hiltz 2003-01-20 11:24:29 UTC
I just gave up and converted to 1.4 over the weekend. Now I don't have any problems with
XML-SAX, but it does leave the question hanging about what I may have screwed up before
in 1.2 Unless someone else evidences the problem, I'll vote to close the bug.
Comment 6 Michael Cummings (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-29 20:29:13 UTC
so voted - marked as cantfix as the problem dissapeared
