The specific one I noticed was wav files. mplayerplug-in supports almost all types, but vlc does not. While VLC supports a wide range of files from its own gui, it doesn't work from within a browser supporting the mozilla plugin. Using VLC 0.8.4a

Please report this upstream, and also notice that VLC's nsplugin isn't exactly as stable as mplayerplug-in.
