Description Thomas Schuetz 2006-03-26 00:54:16 UTC
xorg doesn't start since I've updated to 1.0.5529-r7. This is because it couldn't find the nvidia_drv.o.
I found out, that the module moves from /usr/lib/modules/drivers (r6) to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers. Maybe there is a search-path wich needs to be adjusted? Copying the module into /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers works fine.

Okay, there was a typo, I've updated from 6629-r6. Another thing, that isn't working is glx - no more gaming with the stable one :-(
Comment 2 Thomas Schuetz 2006-03-27 07:31:56 UTC
Okay, sorry, the problem with glx was another thing...
Comment 3 Thomas Schuetz 2006-03-29 07:22:54 UTC
If you change line 126 from

local X11_LIB_DIR="/usr/${inslibdir}/xorg"

to

local X11_LIB_DIR="/usr/${inslibdir}"

everything works fine. Thanks to lu_zero for his help!

BTW, Thomas is referring to the ebuild itself for that change. And yes, confirmed, that did the trick for me! Thanks, Thomas and lu_zero!

Of course, you could also adjust ModulePath in /etc/X11/xorg.conf - perhaps that's changed in unstable/modular, which is probably what the devs are using, explaining how this bug made it into the stable tree.

I think this was fixed a few weeks ago. What version of xorg are you using?
Comment 7 Thomas Schuetz 2006-05-05 12:50:18 UTC
I'm using the stable one, xorg-x11-6.8.2-r7 and r6 before. I had that problem before I setup a new gentoo system but could solve it by copying the nvidia_drv.o. Now nvidia-glx just crashes my x11... :-(

This blog describes the problem very well(it's not my blog!): http://my.opera.com/CrazyTerabyte/blog/show.dml/85712

ok, I fixed X11_LIB_DIR. Thanks.
