Description Balint Dobai-Pataky 2006-03-25 07:46:21 UTC
i upgraded to wireless-tools-28_pre14 when it has been declared as stable on x86, today i rebooted, and found out, that my atheros card can't connect as it should.
i had some hw modifications, and a kernel rebuild, and i found it hard to identify the problem. i downgraded madwifi drivers and tools to versions i had in cache (i was offline), and as a last hope i found wireless-tools-28_pre10 on a machine, and downgraded to that one. problem solved instantly.

my ath device was not able to search, so it did not find any aps, it didn't go online. i tried lots of tricks with it via iwconfig and wlanconfig, but i wasn't able to make it work.
another thing, it allways set my nick to my essid, which allows other wireless clients to try to connect to me, and that decrases my connection speed to aboout 50%.
wireless-tools-28_pre10 does this right with a 'iwconfig_ath0="nick bla"' in /etc/conf.d/wireless

I'm not sure what this bug report is about? Could you be a bit more specific? You haven't included any error messages or details about your wireless setup at all.

i think the problem was iwlist scanning didn't work, for all hardware it listed that they are not scanning capable, or something similar.
and then the initscript could not set essid for a while, and saw that there are no APs available, and unset essid, and exited.
and i think all this becouse scanning didn't work.
