Just as the LDP (Linux Documentation Project) and LFS (Linux From Scratch) are available via ebuild, I would like to see the Gentoo documentation available as well.
This bug has been inactive for more than 300 days. I second this request. The Gentoo Handbook seems like a good candidate for an ebuild. Changing component to Handbook. Adding bug-wranglers to CC.
Created attachment 29974 [details] app-doc/gentoo-doc-20040424.ebuild I don't think a gentoo documentation ebuild should be limited to only the handbook. Here's a sample package that will at least install an html version of the documentation in cvs along with the handbook, but it's not too pretty and I'm not sure html is the way to go. I used an xml to html converter for these. I do agree that a gentoo documentation ebuild would be nice. Comments on how to make this happen a little more...prettifullier?
Possibly make it a few embuilds broken down as they are on the web site. One System Administration that contains all files listed under that section. Will need text and html formats IMHO. One System Documentation, One Installation, one Development, etc....... as on page http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/index.xml#doc_chap7
i'm not sure this is necessary. http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gdp/doc/doc-tipsntricks.xml gives users the ability to download all documents and transform them as needed...

sorry, but as i said in irc, its rather infeasable and mostly pointless. the tarball already exists, and fetching/untarring is just as simple as suing and emerging to some obscure directory
