A lot of version of mplayer (>=2006-01-01 and <2006-02-11, >2006-02-11 and <2006-03-19) got a bug on making mpeg files. Please update the ebuilds. Thanks.
please provide more informations, including emerge info, the command line used, a sample if possible.

-o /dev/null a-divx5-file.avi same problem even with/without: 1) with vpass=2 & vpass=3 2) without the kvcd matrix. remove the kvcd matrix allow me to see the problem after more than 30 sec of video (more time, if combined with the next point). 3) with different keyint. less keyint allow to see the problem after ~20 sec of video. bigger keyint allow me to see the problem after ~5-10 sec of video. 4) without noskip, mc, scale/expand, trell, mbd, mv0, aspect, and near any option.
Encoding to MPEG (instead of AVI) with MEncoder is still expiremental / beta. Best bet -- try latest release, encode to AVI, or try ffmpeg / transcode. Thanks Stefano
