Description Michael J. McConachie 2006-03-22 21:00:02 UTC
Every time that any error occurs with my system, i get a read only file system error. in this instance, i did a emerge gcc-hppa64, and it errored out. afterwords, i went ahead with the normal gcc i have, and did an emerge -uDv (after a SUCCESSFUL emerge --sync, and the first two of 3 gcc-hppa64 packages compiled..)

heres what i got.

sorry, dont know enough to say more.

anything useful in `dmesg` ?

got it here. sorry to sound like a moron on the initial question for the bug. it looks like something is making /dev/sda4 freak out. it fsck's clean, and comes up fine, (i am on the live cd in a chrooted environment to my box)

Heres dmesg:

Thanks for the quick help. I apologize for the Neanderthal writing above. Basically, I am having write errors it seems on /dev/sda4 (my / partition) after any error. i checked dmesg, and sure enough, there is a /dev/sda4 error. weirdly, e2fsck says its good, and i have installed on this disk before, i can try another one if this doesn

so what then, close it and not notify anyone? i dont even know what that means, all i know is it occurs when i emerge, with either the 2006 live cd, or the 2005.1.

only during the initial emerge, or any other subsequent. i have tried ext2, etx3, and now reiser. what do you suggest?

thanks

well either it's sucky hardware (nothing we can do about it) or it's the kernel scsi driver

Good to go, i will look into that scsi driver. who do i report this to?? unfortunately, i am new to this. sorry for any inconvience.

before you report anything, you should try the latest kernel (2.6.16_p0)

Thanks Spanky. I'll do.

I am uncertain where to get that though, I have tried a build, to two a day, and mine keeps getting 2.6.15-pa4. I'll look into that, I am about to do an emerge hppa-sources, let's see if its in there today.

also, I just finished that new emerge hppa-sources, and it gave me /hppa-sources-2.6.15.4_p4. I am unsure how to get that 2.6.16_p0.

I can only assuem you are referring to X86, not the HPPA2.0 arch.

thanks
