dev-java/ibm-jre-bin-1.4.2.03 does not provide a java plugin for bowsers and is the only unmasked jre for ppc. Here are some proposed solution: - blackdown-jre-1.3.1-r9 shouldnt be hardmasked. - one of the newer blackdown should at least be ~ppc. - find a ibm-jre plugin (hack the 1.5 version ?). Kristian
Blackdown 1.3.x is old and broken. Most java apps in the tree won't compile with it, the plugin module that it provides doesn't work with modern mozilla browsers and it has security issues. It's not going to be unmasked, and will in fact be removed soon. Newer blackdown versions are not available for PPC. If you can convince them to provide PPC builds, that would be nice. The IBM Java 5 does provide a browser plugin, but is not yet compatible enough with important packages (such as OO.o). Until it's stable enough for most java tasks, it won't be marked stable. You are more than welcome to unmask it yourself and use it locally. This course of action is the one recommended by the PPC FAQ. Sorry, there's just not much we can do about it at the moment. Blame closed source software. :p
