I now use gentoo-sources-2.6.14-gentoo-r5 with no problem about alsa. But when i upgrade tot 2.6.15-r1 with make oldconfig etcetera.. and reboot, i can not use alsa anymore. I compile modules in kernel and use only alsa-utils, alsaconf (no problem) but then when i want to use alsamixer, it stops. I can not use alsamixer and with volume control in gnome-2.12.2 is only see a oss mixer and not a alsa mixer anymore. I have tried also alsa-drivers and use de gentoo alsa-guide of the internet. Does anybody has a solution? Here is my emerge info with a working alsa: teun # emerge info Portage 2.0.54 (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-3.4.5, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.53GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.6.14 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo http://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cdr cli crypt ctype cups curl dba dri eds emboss encode esd exif expat fam fastbuild ffmpeg foomaticdb force-cgi-redirect fortran ftp gd gdbm gif gimp gimpprint glut gmp gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml hal howl idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg kde lcms ldap libg++ libwww mad memlimit mikmod mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mplayer ncurses nls nptl nsplugin nvidia ogg openal opengl oss pam parport0 pcre pdf pdflib perl png posix ppds python qt quicktime readline scanner sdl session simplexml soap sockets spell spl ssl tcpd tiff tokenizer truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode usb vorbis win32codecs xml xml2 xmms xsl xv zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS
Does /proc/asound/cards list your card?
No, see below: # /proc/asound/cards bash: /proc/asound/cards: Permission denied Strange, because i am using kernel 2.6.14-gentoo-sources-r5 and with this kernel all is working well But the card is listed when i do lscpi, see below: # lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 645xx (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge (AGP) 00:02.0 ISA bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS963 [MuTIOL Media IO] (rev 04) 00:02.1 SMBus: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS961/2 SMBus Controller 00:02.5 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE] 00:03.0 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.1 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.2 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.3 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 2.0 Controller 00:04.0 Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet (rev 91) 00:08.0 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. Sorry my mistake. My soundcard is recognized, see below: teun # cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [Live ]: EMU10K1 - SB Live [Unknown] SB Live [Unknown] (rev.10, serial:0x80661102) at 0x8800, irq 9 Hope this answered your question.
Is this still an issue with current kernel/alsa-drivers ?
with current alsa packages no issue anymore
