Description Teun Blok 2006-03-22 09:02:45 UTC
I now use gentoo-sources-2.6.14-gentoo-r5 with no problem about alsa. But when i upgrade tot 2.6.15-r1 with make oldconfig etcetera.. and reboot, i can not use alsa anymore.
I compile modules in kernel and use only alsa-utils, alsaconf (no problem) but then when i want to use alsamixer, it stops. I can not use alsamixer and with volume control in gnome-2.12.2 is only see a oss mixer and not a alsa mixer anymore.
I have tried also alsa-drivers and use de gentoo alsa-guide of the internet.
Does anybody has a solution?

Here is my emerge info with a working alsa:

Does /proc/asound/cards list your card?
Comment 2 Teun Blok 2006-03-23 02:36:40 UTC
No, see below:

# /proc/asound/cards
bash: /proc/asound/cards: Permission denied

Strange, because i am using kernel 2.6.14-gentoo-sources-r5 and with this kernel all is working well

But the card is listed when i do lscpi, see below:

# lspci

Comment 4 Teun Blok 2006-03-27 08:43:14 UTC
Sorry my mistake. My soundcard is recognized, see below:

teun # cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Live ]: EMU10K1 - SB Live [Unknown]
                     SB Live [Unknown] (rev.10, serial:0x80661102) at 0x8800, irq 9

Hope this answered your question.
Comment 5 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-01 22:17:23 UTC
Is this still an issue with current kernel/alsa-drivers ?
Comment 6 Teun Blok 2007-01-23 21:41:09 UTC
with current alsa packages no issue anymore
