Description merwan kashouty 2006-03-21 18:59:16 UTC
i am not able to play music from the ipod thru banshee and i am getting this output when i try.

GST-DEBUG: You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins.: gstplaybasebin.c(1457): prepare_output (): /playbin
Error: [03/21/2006 21:29:34] (Playback Error) - You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins.
GST-DEBUG: Internal data flow error.: gstbasesrc.c(1416): gst_base_src_loop (): /playbin/source:
streaming task paused, reason not-linked
Error: [03/21/2006 21:29:34] (Playback Error) - Internal data flow error.

also when banshee asks to import the music and i give it the path to the ipod it looks as though its working but no title information is displayed in the banshee window just alternating ligt blue and white lines.

Comment 2 merwan kashouty 2006-03-26 15:54:48 UTC
well i encoded everything in itunes to .mp3 and synced the ipod.. now banshee plays them all fine... would still like to know what i was missing that wouldnt allow banshee to play .m4a files where rhythmbox would.
Comment 3 Martey Dodoo 2006-03-31 16:36:35 UTC
I have the same problems playing AAC files in Banshee. I assume it is because Banshee is using GStreamer 0.10 (and gst-plugins-faad 0.10.1) while Rhythmbox uses GStreamer 0.8.
Comment 4 Luis Medinas (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-31 16:53:14 UTC
what if you install gst-plugins-faac ?
Comment 5 Martey Dodoo 2006-03-31 17:13:30 UTC
I have gst-plugins-faac installed. I have tried re-emerging both it and gst-plugins-faad; this does not solve the problem.
Comment 6 Andrew Frink 2006-04-09 11:40:37 UTC
I can't even get my ipod to show up, even though lshal -m shows it and it gets automounted by gnome
Comment 7 Martey Dodoo 2006-04-19 07:03:10 UTC
The problem with M4A/AAC files has been fixed in CVS HEAD of Banshee; see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338777
Comment 8 Luis Medinas (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-02 19:18:59 UTC
it was fixed on banshee cvs and it's fixed on 0.10.10 so we can close this bug.
