This is due to the new eclass defaulting to using DESTDIR as buildtarget, workaround is to set USE_EINSTALL=1 . Please do report all packages that show this problem however.
committed a fix to the gnome2.eclass. Please sync in a few hours and try again. Re-open if this does not solve your problem.
