Description Heitzso 2006-03-20 07:02:10 UTC
About once a week I do an emerge sync followed by
emerge update system then world. This morning
completed that sequence then rebooted only to discover
that /etc/init.d/rp-pppoe no longer worked. It was
still wired in to run 'default' but couldn't because
the adsl-start program is no longer to be found in
/usr/sbin.

I ran pppoe-connect by hand in a root window and
that's working (with no /etc/ppp config files changed).
I just "emerge rp-pppoe" and will check what's
going on from there.

I'm tagging as a major bug so someone looks it over quick.
I assume it is a config/ebuild problem but not sure.

There's no init script any more, it's handled by baselayout.

Might want to double check that the official gentoo doc
is all in line for this change.
When I googled I hit a number of links to gentoo
doc. The main links I followed back to gentoo.org
all of which referred to adsl-start, etc. so they're
a notch or two behind this mod.

Also, while the "emerge rp-pppoe" flagged the
command name change, I don't recall it making reference
to the need to modify /etc/conf.d/net, make link in
/etc/init.d/ and rc-update del rp-pppoe default
etc. emerge messages tend to get lost in the clutter
of messages, but might be useful to find a way to
flag this. Thanks.
