The rICMP tool is a Linux kernel patch that interacts with the TCP/IP stack. The patch let you reboot your (probably hanged) machine remotely, using a simple ICMP Echo packet (also known as ping :)). It requires a kernel patch and userland utility to send out the packet.
Hmmm, patching kernel for such functionality should be really requested upstream. Sounds also kinda insecure, it contains a hardcoded temporary password, according to README...
Maybe only userland utils then.
Is suspect if this functionality is important for many people, they will be buying iLO and such :) Unless this patch can be cleaned up and pushed mainstream, I cant see kernel inclusion at this time. Sorry. RE: Userland tools, if there is someone willing to support them - I've got no personal objection to them going in. Without the kernel patch it might be questionable re: its usefulness however.
