Seems like we need a new version of confcache, the problem is in the ./configure calling that is not correctly quoted. Also passing through a ${ELDFLAGS} variable get expanded.
Okay, I've added quoting to confcache, please upgrade to 0.4.2-r1 and this problem (and others alike) should be solved. Brian, you can merge the change from my bzr http://dev.gentoo.org/~flameeyez/bzr/confcache .
Okay, it wasn't confcache fault this time, bug portage 2.1_pre6-r4 ... the fix was working with -r4 and breaking again with -r5... sandbox screwup. I've removed confcache-0.4.2-r1.

So, what _is_ the problem? I have sys-apps/portage-2.1_pre7-r5 and dev-util/confcache-0.4.2 and cannot emerge openssh.
Does not work with sys-apps/portage-2.1_pre7-r5 and dev-util/confcache-0.4.2
