Description Neluta 2006-03-19 07:03:39 UTC
Fityk [fi:tik] is for peak-fitting.

Longer version: fityk is a program for nonlinear fitting of analytical functions (especially peak-shaped) to data (usually experimental data). There are also people using it only to display data or to remove baseline from data.

It is reported to be used in crystallography, chromatography, photoluminescence, infrared and Raman spectroscopy and other fields.

At present fityk knows only about common peak-shaped functions (Gaussian, Lorentzian, Voigt, Pearson VII, bifurcated Gaussian, EMG, Doniach-Sunjic, etc.) and polynomials. Implementation of user-defined functions is almost finished and will be included in next major release (0.8.0). List of built-in functions also will be expanded.

Fityk offers intuitive graphical interface (and also command line interface), variouse optimization methods (standard Marquardt least-square algorithm, Genetic Algorithms, Nelder-Mead simplex), equality constraints, modelling error of x coordinate of points (eg. zero-shift of instrument), handling series of datasets, automation of common tasks with scripts, and more.

Fityk works under Linux, FreeBSD, MS Windows and MacOS X. And it is free software (GPL)!

The first minimalistic attempt on fityk ebuild

Minimalistic, as little typing as possible. Attempts to catalogue the optional features of fityk, describe them by USE flags and account for their respective requirements, but otherwise relies on autodetection of fityk configure script, does absolutly nothing with its option, and thus does not provide means to disable a feature, if its prerequisities are present.

fityk-0.8.2 now in the science overlay (layman -a science).
Report bugs here.
