both in console and X my locale is en_GB.ISO-8859-15 (LAN and LC_ALL) under Bash; in X I use Eterms.

In Eterm, when I vim anyfile letters 'é' 'ç' and 'à' come out properly, saved ok, and re-read fine. When in the same Eterm I vim foob.tex, then 'ç' and 'à' are ok, but 'é' takes the cursor une step left; after save, 'é' is not present at all. If /etc/vim/vimrc is removed or renamed, then every thing works fine also for any and Latex files.

Under X, I have tried fr, and fr-latin9 layouts. fr gives what I just said; latin9 is even worse.

In console, the keymap is fr_latin15 (otherwise 'é' and 'ç' do not come fine in bash); whether the Gentoo /etc/vim/vimrc is active or not, hitting the sequence "éçà" gives to screen "é ç | " (note the accuented 'a' became bar, and additionnal spaces).

Those problems are not affected by the use or not of the user land ~/.vimrc: every thing have been tested with it and without. I have followed several localisation toturii like http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/guide-localization.xml . My .bashrc is customed (may affect ? dont think so)

Use of same user profile (.vimrc+.bashrc) works 100% ok on other non Gentoo box. Profile shared with NFS over local net.

Vim tested with and without nls: same.

glibc 2.4 tested with and without userlocal: same

one of those which is here but not amongst the list of 30 in preview comment is responsible for breaking editiont of latex files.

Mad an other mistake in preview comment: the list of 56 files is the list in console when editing LATEX FILES.

In console, when starting vim with edition of nothing, or non latex file, then I also got the same list as with 30 lines.

Hello, are you still experiencing trouble with this? There are newer versions of both vim and latexsuite stable in the tree, do they solve your problem?
Comment 10 DEMAINE Benoît-Pierre, aka DoubleHP 2006-09-14 16:14:15 UTC
I did only one test:
vim log_book.tex

I did only one test:
vim log_book.tex

when I hit keys abcdé

I get on screen: abcd with cursor 'd' instead of at least staying after.

This does not happen if I hit the same sequence of keys in 'vim' without any argument.

This confirms whats described in par.2 of original bug desc.

Calculating dependencies... done!

Emerged world last week ... so, I ll assume bug is still alive.

Hmm, how are you entering é?
The way I enter it on my (us) keyboard is:
<C-K> e '

Are you using the Diacritics support from latex-suite? What does this show?
:echo g:Tex_Diacritics
