We recently switched from our mail server from Redhat with our own qmail build to Gentoo. Yay! But, it seems that r16 of qmail requires TLS to support SMTP AUTH. If I use Thunderbird with TLS, I can smtp auth. However, if I turn off TLS, qmail says that the domain is not in rcpthosts. Now, I would love to tell everyone to suck it up and get a real mail client. But, I can't do that. We have folks using MS Entourage on Macs. Entourage does not support TLS. So, when picking between having our sales people use some hotel ISP for smtp or us without TLS, I would rather have us without TLS.
Sorry, this was bogus. There is a use flag -notlsbeforeauth
