So your "fatal" error is that evdev is not found and has nothing to do with the OpenGL message, which only applies to Nvidia and ATI cards, correct? What exact symptoms are you experiencing?

I took the word "fatal" to indicate that this install was not going anywhere. Moving on from there, the symptoms were that it attempted a GTK+ install but left me with an unusable GUI. I could see some of the options listed in the installation docs, but could not select them. I tried again with the command "gentoo nox" at the boot: prompt. When it got to the # prompt, the command "installer" did nothing. This is when I started believing that "fatal" really meant fatal.
Strange... So when it left you with an unusable GUI, what do you mean, exactly? Did it load up Gnome and you made it to the desktop or did something happen before then? Did the Installer itself not work? As for doing it via "nox", well, the evdev module shouldn't be fatal to that, while it could be fatal to X, if your mouse/keyboard are only supported by the evdev driver. You could also try running "installer-dialog" at the # prompt, as that should work without any sort of mouse. What kind of keyboard/mouse do you have? Also, can you get me the output of /etc/sysconfig/gentoo?
Also, how much video RAM do you have allocated in the BIOS?
