Description james 2002-12-23 06:50:12 UTC
you have a big prob. with the livecd and the new Compaq that uses a new chipset
that the livecd's kernel dosen't support. The new vanilla kernel (2.4.20) has
the chipset in it.

what happenes is:
1. the cd boots
2. finds the info.
3. lookes for the partitions on IRQ 7
3. sits there looking for ever

what to do:
1. add all chipsets in the new kernel (2.4.20)
2. THERE IS NO WORKAROUND!!!

OK, grab the "2002122300" livecd-basic from
http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/experimental/livecd/ and test it for me. We have a
2.4.20-based kernel, and we should have all IDE chipsets enabled. Post results
(good/bad) here....

reopen if needed

LiveCD (both basic and athlon-xp) don't work on a Compaq Presario 900. You
receive the error that it (the LiveCD) can't mount /newroot/dev/cdroms/cdrom0
on /newroot/mnt/cdrom: Invalid argument.

I've tried with several options (noapic, acpi=off, nodetect, ...) without
luck. Will test a 2.6-LiveCD and report here what we find.

Sven, any luck with the new LiveCD?

livecds use kernels newer than 2.4.20 so this should be fixed
