Description Jeff Ames 2002-12-23 01:19:53 UTC
When I emerge pcmcia-cs under kernel 2.4.20, it fails to compile. This happens
whether the kernel is directly from kernel.org or from vanilla-sources.

This only happens when there is no PCMCIA support in the kernel itself, and so
pcmcia-cs tries to build the drivers as well as utilities. If PCMCIA support is
in the kernel, pcmcia-cs builds without any problems.

Attached is the output of 'emerge pcmcia-cs'. I've tried this with ebuild
3.2.1-r1 as well as 3.2.3, and both give the same failure.

If I recall correctly, I've built pcmcia-cs successfully without PCMCIA support
in the kernel when I was using 2.4.19 and various beta kernels between 2.4.19
and 2.4.20, including 2.4.20-rc1.

I was trying to emerge under an su'd shell. But I had simply done 'su',
not 'su -'. Changing to the latter fixed this problem.
