"Note: Changes to the partitions don't reflect on-the-fly, so please reboot after using fdisk or cfdisk." Changes *are* reflected on-the-fly. # fdisk /dev/hda ... Command (m for help): w The partition table has been altered! Calling ioctl() to re-read partition table. Syncing disks. # -- Re-reading may fail if the drive is in use (i.e. has mounted partitions), but fdisk will tell you that. The general case is that no reboot is required.
Maybe this should change to 'only reboot if using cfdisk??' I know that cfdisk has issues syncing... Cheers, //ZhEN
Any reply to this? I am closing this bug Monday if there are no replies. //zhen
I can't tell you about how cfdisk works, but I can tell you that users of fdisk on any of the Gentoo install CDs don't have to reboot unless something is accessing the disk as they format (a mount, a dd, whatever).
Changed in the install doc. I am still leaving a warning for cfdisk, until there is further testing done. //zhen
