Description Greg Watson (linuxkrn) 2006-03-11 12:13:34 UTC
When you try to adjust the volume with alsamixergui, it hangs.

straces shows the following:

read(4, "\6\0\221\4\30\212X\0301\1\0\0\3\0\200\1\0\0\0\0\371\6\372"..., 32) = 32
ioctl(4, FIONREAD, [0]) = 0
ioctl(3, USBDEVFS_IOCTL, 0xbf83eed0) = 0
ioctl(3, USBDEVFS_HUB_PORTINFO, 0xbf83eed0) = 0

Then it hangs.

my devices (/proc/asound/cards)
0 [Audigy2 ]: Audigy2 - Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P]
                     Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P] (rev.4, serial:0x10021102) at 0xdf00, irq 225
1 [ICH7 ]: ICH4 - Intel ICH7
                     Intel ICH7 with ALC655 at 0xfdffe000, irq 225

Also worth noting that alsamixer (ncurses one) works just fine.

Trying to track down the problem, I removed some USB devices. Turns out that a USB headset, which I do not have the module installed, on purpose, was unplugged alsamixergui worked as expected.

It's just a standard usb headset, uses the usb-audio module. But if it isn't loaded in the kernel I don't see how this should effect alsamixer one bit. As shown, it isn't listed in /proc/asound/cards.

Anyone going to respond to this bug?

I cannot reproduce this one, it works fine for me
Comment 4 Stian Skjelstad 2007-04-18 18:08:37 UTC
Not much has happened, but sounds like an upstream issue with alsa. Does this still happen with the current alsa-lib version (considering that is stucks inside asound.so)?

Seems to work fine, can you reproduce with current alsa? Reopen, if you can.
