LiveCD is unable to create /dev/fb0, it says that /dev/fb0 is not found when it tries to show splash. It cannot identify screen mode and tries to load /etc/splash/livecd-2006.0/.cfg - which doesn't exist. Then it selects default VESA driver for X server and fails to find any screen mode, saying: Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. When I manually set driver to use "i810" it says that /dev/agpgart is not found. I couldn't modprobe agpgart as such module doesn't exist on livecd.
Which motherboard/computer is this with? I tested on an IBM ThinkCentre with i865G, but don't have any i845G stuff to test against and I had no issues. What if you boot with "gentoo-nofb" instead?

OK. Can you paste the exact errors that you get? (You can use the mouse to select and links works for browsing bugs.gentoo.org) Also, the contents of /etc/sysconfig/gentoo would be useful along with the output of lspci.

When I increase Internal Video Memory from 1mb to 8Mb in BIOS, then both splash screen and X server start as expected. Thank you for your cooperation and time! I used agpgart driver before that could request more memory if needed. But VESA driver uses only memory allocated by BIOS.
Sounds good. I would bet that the minimum video RAM required is probably lower than 8MB, I would guess 4MB should be sufficient for 1024x678x24@60, but I could be wrong there. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you found the cause of the problem.
