Comment 3 Harald van Dijk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-08 13:28:58 UTC
Does tcltk appear in ufed at all for you? If so, what does it show between the parentheses?
Comment 4 Dieter Saeys 2006-03-08 13:44:18 UTC
tcltk is listed in ufde

it is enabled in ufed but doesn't show up in /etc/make.conf
if i disable it in ufed, it shows up as -tcltk in /etc/make.conf
Comment 5 Harald van Dijk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-08 13:51:32 UTC
So what's shown in the parentheses? (+  ) ? (++ ) ? ( + ) ?

Also, could you please list all your installed packages? (cd /var/db/pkg && ls -1d */*) I think ufed assumes you have something installed which causes it to automatically turn on unless overridden, but you really don't.

Comment 7 Harald van Dijk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-08 14:08:04 UTC
That's odd. It shows you have dev-lang/tcl installed. According to /usr/portage/profiles/base/use.defaults, that's supposed to automatically turn on the tcltk flag. What does `emerge --pretend --unmerge tcl` say? Does it say you have no tcl installed, or does it agree that 8.4.9 exists on your system?
Comment 8 Dieter Saeys 2006-03-08 14:37:55 UTC
tcl is installed, i even reemerged it without succes
Comment 9 Harald van Dijk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-08 14:48:57 UTC
portage people, could you please take a look at this? It seems to me that with the use.defaults entry, nothing else of interest to x86 in the profiles about the flag, and tcl installed, tcltk should be turned on in portage 2.0*, but in this case, it isn't. Is this a portage problem, or is it a problem with how I think use.defaults is supposed to work?

Please provide the output of:

python -c 'import portage;print portage.settings["USE_ORDER"]'

Comment 11 Dieter Saeys 2006-03-08 16:27:57 UTC
no output, just an empty line

This is with -tcltk NOT in make.conf correct?
Comment 13 Dieter Saeys 2006-03-09 08:31:28 UTC
yes, but adding -tcltk still doesn't give any output
Comment 14 Dieter Saeys 2006-03-14 16:21:04 UTC
is there anything else i can do to help?
is it a problem that only exists on my systems?
Comment 15 Harald van Dijk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-15 00:10:34 UTC
I don't know if it's only you, but I had tried to reproduce your problem with portage 2.1 (and USE_ORDER overridden so that auto-use was reenabled) without success. The one suggestion I can think of is to move your /etc/make.conf away, and see if ufed and portage then agree on whether the tcltk flag is enabled by default. (Don't forget to restore make.conf to your current one afterwards, of course.) If that fixes things, you could attach your current make.conf here.
Comment 16 Dieter Saeys 2006-03-15 12:30:59 UTC
ok, moved /etc/make.conf

when i run for example 'emerge -pv python' portage wants to merge -tcltk*
ufed however still thinks the tcltk USE flag is on; [X] tcltk ( + )
Comment 17 Eugene Gluzberg 2006-05-29 21:30:14 UTC
I am having the same exact problem with bzip2 and tcltk (portage 2.1) on amd64.

here is my emerge --info
