New Ati-Drivers 8.23.7 launched Request for ebuild
Comment 1 Robert Wohlrab 2006-03-08 11:58:21 UTC
it looks like you can use ati-drivers-extra-8.22.5-improvements.patch.bz2 for x11-apps/ati-drivers-extra-8.23.7
Comment 2 Jory A. Pratt 2006-03-08 14:34:45 UTC
I have began the process of seeding our mirrors with the 8.23.7 packages, soon as some of the mirrors are seeded I will see about making bump, unless lu_zero gets around to it before me.

I you do in this night please remember to restrict stricter for the driver ebuild.

Sup Luca,

Does anyone know if this latest driver fixes the on-logout kernel freeze? I've been using 8.14.13-r5 with vanilla-sources-2.6.13 (it won't compile for kernels beyond that) for sometime now. I've tested up to 8.20.whatever and i gave up after that. Anyone more optimistic than me have a chance to test newer drivers? Also there was a problem with openglsl bug #123 at http://ati.cchtml.com anyone know if that has been fixed too?

Still having the logout crash and kernel panics when stopping X-org. I have send a ticket to ati customer care...

Which kernel did you have?
I'm running gentoo-sources 2.6.15-r4 with ati-drivers 8.22.5 on amd64 without problems, newer kernels are impossible to run with this version.

Has anyone tested newer kernels with those new ati-drivers?
Comment 7 Ana Andrés 2006-03-14 14:37:48 UTC
i tried with 2.6.14-r7 and with 2.6.15-r7, ati-drivers-8.20.8 works fine for me, but the latest drivers with 2.6.14-r7 or 2.6.15-r7 not.

i have tried with legacy power management api implementation and without it but the crash remains with both implementations.

PD: On my amd64 8.22.5 is working fine with 2.6.15-r7 i will try 8.23.7 when i have some time. The problems are on my laptop P4 with ati 9700.

I can post my kernel config if you want

Matthew looks like there are still many open issues
Comment 9 Ana Andrés 2006-03-15 15:44:11 UTC
i had been looking the latest version and i found some messages in dmesg,
looks like the driver can have a problem detecting all the time the flat panel?
in dmesg i can see lots of messages like: [fglrx] Flat panel plugged in and since that the framebuffer suffers distortion (im using vesafb, but disabling it doesnt workarround the problem).

i will try on my amd64 this weekend.

PD:to mtippett@ati.com i sent the ticket but i havent notice this messages in dmesg the other day. i hope this can help you.

i tried this new version on my amd64 and is working pretty fine, some minor problems when switching to text mode but i dont have kernel panics.

I just tried this on my laptop which has a 9600 and it fixed the xorg restart problem and I can switch to text mode just fine also. OpenGLSL is still broken however.

I cannot compile x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.23.7 on i686 with linux-2.6.17-rc1:

heh i give up, If i need to do anything graphically intensive I'll switch to windows. Otherwise I'll wait until xorg and mesa support acceleration on R9600
Comment 14 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2006-04-28 10:39:40 UTC
I'm sorry but till the next week I'll be busy with exams and I don't have time to fix the kernel gluecode =/
