Description tom stack 2006-03-06 19:35:45 UTC
To start i am using the livecd-amd64-installer-2006.0 version of the installer, with an AMD 64 3200+ processor. I am trying to install with the GLI GUI frontend. So the 64 bit version on 64 bit hardware with the GUI frontend.

I did not see a bug that matched this description but I can not update to the latest CVS to see if this has already been fixed, as the target computer only has dial up. (If there is a way to get the latest cvs installed through dial up without using a second computer to share the internet connection please let me know how.)

My issue is that the gli failes with GLI Exception: Emerge Package Error: Fatal: Emerge could not emerge sys-apps/Pciutils 2.2.0rc1!.

I was unable to figure out how to copy the log files to a floppy or my ipod (through USB 2.0) so the only information I can give you is I checked my network is already set up to get the silent install fail bug (again because I can get the CVS snapshot through dial up on a lone machine) and changed the processor type on the screen with the big scroll list of use flags to amd64 from i386(which I believe is the default).

I also tried again with a totally default settings not one thing changed for default other than checking the network is set up box and got the exact same result.

at what stage of the installation does this error show up? in the install_extra_packages? setting up the post_install networking? pre-install?

The version of the installer on the amd64 experimental livecd is broken if you use the GTK frontend since it only allows you to select x86 CHOSTs. This has been fixed in CVS. If you don't have direct access to the internet, use the dialog frontend, as it doesn't have the CHOST problem.

Resolving since this was likely caused by the CHOST thing which is already fixed in CVS.

Moving to Release Media/Installer.
