Manually browsing the distfiles I see:
 zlib-1.1.3.tar.gz 07-Mar-2002 01:57   165k  GZIP compressed document
but not 1.1.4.

This seems like a DNS issue at your end.  It should go into the ibiblio mirrors
at some point.  But in the meantime, I can resolve that ftp.freesoftware.com,
whereas it seems as though you were unable to.
Odd, that.
