Description Hans Nieser 2006-03-05 05:00:51 UTC
After updating to vlc-0.8.4a-r1 on both Gentoo machines I operate, I found that it was unable to decode XviD and DivX streams (with fourcc's DIV3 and XVID respectively). When checking the preferences under the Input / Codecs menu item, it listed no codecs at all (except "Fake"). Both Gentoo machines suffer form this. I tried deleting ~/.vlc, re-emering vlc, without success.

These are the USE-flags I use when emerging VLC:

[ebuild R ] media-video/vlc-0.8.4a-r1 USE="X a52 aac alsa dvd esd ffmpeg hal mp3 mpeg ncurses nls ogg opengl oss png real samba sdl skins stream truetype vorbis win32codecs wxwindows xml2 xv -3dfx -aalib -arts -avahi -bidi -cdda -cddb -corba -daap -debug -dts -dvb -fbcon -flac -ggi -gnutls -httpd -joystick -libcaca -lirc -live -matroska -mod -nsplugin -screen -shout -speex -svg -svga -theora -v4l -vcd -vlm -xinerama -xosd" 0 kB

You have media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20060302 installed, don't you? Well, it's broken...

Mask it and everything will work as before.

Duplicate of bug #124802

Thank you. It seems to have already been taken care of as ffmpeg was masked when I synced just half an hour ago. After rebuilding VLC, it is now working properly again.
Comment 4 Hans Nieser 2006-03-05 10:34:22 UTC
So I guess I should mark this as FIXED (if it'll allow me)
Comment 5 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-05 10:38:22 UTC
Please leave it open so that i can track it :)

By the way, I've masked it on portage as it's breaking more than just vlc.

Okay, problem found, bug fixed, and ready to unmask ffmpeg soon then.
