Description Alec Warner (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2006-03-04 22:57:50 UTC
Some users who are used to using a Universal Install CD are very confused when they head to the mirrors and find that the CD doesn't exist. I know the 2006.0 handbooks refer to the new Installation LiveCD for a simiar experience. Can we add a note to the 2006.0 handbooks ( and perhaps the older ones as well ) noting that for 2006.0, there is no Universal CD, and to use the Install CD.

Thanks,

-Antarus

We have plenty of coverage of the available installation media:
- "What are my options?" section of http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=1#doc_chap1
- The entirety of http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=2#doc_chap2

We can't help it if users don't take the time to read the documentation. Theey should know better to assume that things will always be the same from release to release and that nothing ever changes. It's the user's responsibility to adequately familiarize himself with the procedure and available installation media.

(Besides, files might shift around on the mirrors at some point in the future anyway, so just going straight to *them* expecting to find everything in the usual places is also unreliable. ;))
