I hope this is the right place for this :) The Courier-Imap packages in portage are very old. The latest (masked) version of 4.0.4, yet the most current is 4.1.0, and the one that I knew of before that was 4.0.6 from either last year or the year before. Is there going to be an updated ebuild?

I just created an ebuild for the 4.1.0 version of courier imap (all I had to do was copy courier-imap-4.0.4.ebuild to courier-imap-4.1.0.ebuild and it successfully emerged...) What's the likelihood of this ending up in the portage tree? I want others to benefit from this (4.0.4 is just WAY too old.) I'm willing to maintain the courier-imap ebuilds henceforth if nobody else is doing it.)

courier-imap 4.1.1 has been out for a while. I have a live server that I would like to take past at least version 4.0.6 in order to use the new group acl functionality Any chance that this might at least become a masked package in portage so that we can see a bit more wider testing than just me breaking a few of my machines? I bumped to 4.0.6 at least. I'm not net-mail though, so I didn't add the devel pacakges, that's for net-mail to decide...
Just tested this because I was getting fed up of courier-imap-4.0.6 not wanting to compile with berkdb 4.2 and 4.3 installed with or without --as-needed. So 4.1.1 compiled fine without --as-needed only. I would suggest you do what I did and create a local portage overlay. I've already stopped relying on Gentoo maintainers for Postfix and Courier-Imap. I'd suggest you do the same.
4.1.2 is the latest version.
