I ran "crossdev -p -t i586-gentoo-linux-uclibc" and this created log files in /var/log/portage/ showing the output of the various parts.

Looking at /var/log/portage/cross-i586-gentoo-linux-uclibc-info.log it contains:
"*** Deprecated use of action 'info', use '--info' instead"

fixed in cvs
