Cut/Paste from ssh session into the livecd. -------------------------------- Welcome to the Gentoo Linux Minimal Installation CD! The root password on this system has been auto-scrambled for security. ... To start an ssh server on this system, type "/etc/init.d/sshd start". If you need to log in remotely as root, type "passwd root" to reset root's password to a known value. Please report any bugs you find to http://bugs.gentoo.org. Be sure to include detailed information about how to reproduce the bug you are reporting. Thank you for using Gentoo Linux! junior@livecd ~ $ passwd root You may not change the password for root. junior@livecd ~ $ ------------------------ As you can see, I SSH'd into the livecd, and realized I didn't have a root password. It says I can 'passwd root' to reset it, but wasn't allowed to. If this is meant to say "change the root password now if you need to log in as root remotely later" then it needs to say that.
Are you even using a Gentoo LiveCD? As far as I know, no Gentoo-released LiveCD's have a user called 'junior'.
There is no "junior" user on any official Gentoo release media. Also, you should have been logged in as root. The information given by the CD is correct.
