Please upgrade to the CVS version of the installer by opening a terminal and running '/opt/installer/misc/updategtkfe' and then try your install again. If it fails again, please paste the same information you pasted here already (end of installer.log{.failed} and compile output)
also please include your install XML profiles.
I hope my hard drive isn't b0rked. I tried running /opt/installer/misc/updategtkfe and I now I get this: /var/log/installer.log.failed GLI: March 03 2006 20:10:21 - partitioning: Processing /dev/hdb... Whoops, that was my fault. It's fixed in CVS. Give it another try (run /opt/installer/misc/updategtkfe again).
Failed emerging another package and the environment froze. Here's as much as I'm willing to type out on the screen: GLI: March 04 ... - Exception received during 'installing filesystem tools': EmergePackageError :FATAL: emerge: Could not emerge app-text/poppler-0.4.3-r4! GLI: March 04 ... - GLIException: EmergePackgeError :FATAL: emerge: Could not emerge app-text/poppler-0.4.3-r4! GLI: March 04 ... - ERROR! Could not deactivate swap (/dev/hdb2)!
You know, you can open a web browser on the LiveCD and copy/paste that stuff into this bug. Also, it looks like that latest error is just a failure to compile, which is *not* an installer bug. Although, that failure to deactivate the swap is quite weird. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is problem with your hardware. You may want to boot the LiveCD with 'memtest' and let it run for up to 24 hours (at least overnight). If you have any detected errors, we can't help you until you fix your hardware.
Andrew, I would have copied and pasted, when I tried to highlight the log highlighted a portion of it, then the environment froze. This is the second time I've seen this happen. How do I boot the livecd with memtest?
At the "boot:" prompt when you boot the LiveCD, type "memtest86" and hit enter. How much memory do you have in this machine?
Memtest86 is running... here's what is says for memory at the moment: Pentium 4 (0.18) 1795 Mhz L1 Cache: 8K 14709MB/s L2 Cache: 256K 12549MB/s Memory : 255M 1149MB/s Chipset : Intel i850 (ECC: Disabled) / FSB : 99 Mhz
Ok I've been running this memtest for over 3 days and there have been no errors.
Nobody else has run into this problem (that I'm aware of). Also, it doesn't look like you've actually gotten the error again. Closing.
Moving to Release Media/Installer.
