Let's use this bug to track problems with the 2006.0 InstallCD media.
The following options need to be added back into the G5 kernel config to support certain flavors of the Apple Xserve: CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG_CONSOLE CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG This has been tested with lasaro and indeed works. You can use this disc as a work around until it's incorporated back into the release media -> http://dev.gentoo.org/~ranger/install-ppc64-minimal-newxserv-2006.0.iso
/var/run/screen seems to have wrong permissions: livecd ~ # screen -S chroot chroot /mnt/gentoo/ /bin/bash Directory '/var/run/screen' must have mode 755. livecd ~ # chmod 755 /var/run/screen/ livecd ~ # screen -S chroot chroot /mnt/gentoo/ /bin/bash [just works then] Well... maybe it isn't even worth fixing this. But a working screen out of the box would be nice.
Add ppc64-utils to the package list for livecd-stage1
add sys-apps/iproute2 to the pkg list
Please add net-dialup/rp-pppoe to package list. This package is needed by Chapter 3 of a handbook. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-ppc64.xml?part=1&chap=3#rp-pppoe
the fans are spinning at full speed during install on G5s. Don't have one next to me to check if it is just a kernel config issue or what, but I guess it is releated to this. Please check and fix for next release/experimental cd. P.S.: see http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-453979.html (I can confirm this behaviour on my 7,3 powermac)
- Check configs for THERM_PM72 - Update kernel to 2.6.16.x for better quad support - inject librtas, ibm-powerpc-utils-*, mask ppc64-utils - Update profiles
