i install xorg, nvidia devices...and when i want to startx I see blackscreen. Using trl+alt+backspace doesn't work. 
I read manual...and try to do as there war writen...but there is no efect:( 
i look to var/log/xorg.0.log and found that: 

(II)Loading Extension NV-GLX 
(EE)NVIDIA(0): Failed to obtain a shared memory identifier. 
(II) NVIDIA(0): Using the NVIDIA 2D acceleratiion architecture 
(--)NVIDIA(0):Backing store disabled 
(--)NVIDIA(0): Silken mouse enabled 
(II)NVIDIA(0): Loading extension NV-Control 

Fatal Server Error: 
Caught Signal 11. Server aborting 

my card is : PCI E GeForce 6600 

(one time for a short time i see nvidia's logo )

what version of nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx are you using ? please add your emerge info.

Insufficient info and no response from user.  If you are using a laptop, you will need to add this to /etc/modules.d/nvidia:

option nvidia NVreg_Mobile=1

Then run modules-update
