Since I wrote the little blurb @ the end of the install about the required kernel configs and Think in #gentoo told me I'm evil for having stuck it at the end... I'll be nice and write a little built in ebuild script to help sort out issues with the kernel config before installing the pcmcia-cs package. This ebuild will check /usr/src/linux/.config for the proper options selected in the kernel. Oh and as far as not finding a configured kernel there... it'll complain about that too and stop the ebuild. I know what some will say... what if some people don't have a configured kernel there... well the pcmcia-cs sources require one to be there so this little add on will assure that requirement. Give it a whirl but I think it's a good addition.

I'm reworking this whole thing and I'll attach the new ebuild when it's done.
Outdated bug. No longer a dev either.
