The new major release of dar (disk-archiver), 2.3.0, is out, and it would be nice if it would be added to portage :) dar website: http://dar.sourceforge.net/
Created attachment 82389 [details] dar 2.3.0 ebuild Here's an ebuild for dar 2.3.0. Please note that it does not compile without USE="static". This seems to be an upstream problem because I tried to manually configure without static and could not do it. I also am not sure of the Gentoo approach to this, should the use of the static USE flag be removed from this ebuild since it cannot be build without it?
I was quite surprised when the static useflag was introduced for the dar ebuild a while ago, I wouldn't have any objections to it being removed. After all, the use of static in dar does something completely different than other programs. The normal executable of Dar is still dynamic, but with static, an extra binary "dar_static" is created, which you can put on your backup disc for restoring from a system which doesn't have dar and it's required libs.
Ensuring app-backup doesn't lose any bugs.
2.3.0 has been in portage as unstable for quite some time now. Is there a reason for it not being marked stable? I would test it, but dar is kind of a critical piece of software on my system, which I'd rather not have as unstable.
